The department takes various steps to create interest about the subject among students. The teachers keep them updated in the subject by attending various seminars, workshops and refresher courses organized by different colleges and universities. There is a well stocked ‘Departmental Library’ which provides the necessary text books (both in English and Bengali) and reference books to the students. Along with class room teaching, the students are given opportunities of getting practical experience of the working of the democratic governance of the country. For this the department takes various initiatives and organizes educational outings and day tours for its students. In this endeavor the department had organized two very enriching outings in the last session. The teachers and students of the department visited the office of the Block Development Officer, Thakurpukur-Mahestala Block on 11th January 2009. The students of the department got a rare opportunity to visit the West Bengal Legislative Assembly in the winter session of the house on 19th March 2009.
